Property Agent Legitimacy

At Love Turkish Properties we are focussed on providing certified evidence of our professionalism and commitment to good practice. When we heard that the Turkish National Grand Assembly would adopted the legislation on the regulation of our industry we were pleased to see that the more professional agents could separate themselves from the bad reputation local Turkish agents have created.

Unfortunately the regulation and industry is completely different from the rest of Europe. Regrettably, there is currently no legal authority which can provide a list of qualified agents in Turkey, even though the ruling to regulate was back in May 2007 there are minimal inspectors and weak penal sanctions. In consequence the following of certain standards for qualified Agents is also abused.

The Turkish Standards Institution's (TSE) Technical Committee are working on resolving this. Because of this lack of confidence we have held back from committing resources to this. We recently agreed that regulation of the industry would continue to strengthen and are therefore are currently supporting this by qualifying our company to this standard.

Lots of agents talk about the certification but few can actually explain its meaning. As part of our commitment to help buyers understand every aspect of their purchase we have quantified some of its requirements below:

  • A course & exam approved by the Ministry of Education is to be completed
  • Duration of the course is at least 3 months (120 sessions)
  • The core subjects include Law of Property, The Contract Law, the Land Registry Law, Communication, Public Relations.
  • A 3 month internship has to be served with a registered a broker.
  • The holder/candidate must be a degree holder.

This regulation is excellent news for the industry buy is currently used incorrectly in securing confidence in a buyer.
